Last night I was trying to upgrade my wife's iPhone to OS 3.0, since I'm not an AT&T user so I need to jailbreak it. Obviously, I didn't read through the instruction carefully and accompanied by some bad luck . Thus, something bad happened.
The instruction says I should backup my file through iTune which I thought I did. Later I found out that "sync" didn't mean "backup". That was one mistake. Then I should have iPhone upgraded to firmware 3.0 through iTune before I can do jailbreak. Which I didn't do that either. So that was second mistake. I followed all the steps that jailbreak software asked me to do. At the very end, it popped up an notorious windows warning message said the software has to be turned off and you want to sent error message to Microsoft or not.
What I supposed to do in the middle of jailbreaking and the software helped me to do that just broken. I just saw the screen showed downloading jailbreak data and a circle kept running. And I couldn't shut it down during that period. Then I know what is called helpless. All the instruction just told you when everything went right what could you expect. But no one mentioned what should you do if there was an accident.
By then I started to understand that iTune can restore iPhone. Of course if you had backup your iPhone before you do the upgrade. After restoring you should have your original setup. Then you see the problem, I couldn't find my "BACKUP". Therefore, I had to restore to factory setup status. Which I lost everything in my wife's iPhone.
Finally, the restoring process went through fine. And I could do the jailbreak AGAIN!!. It seemed like I had to learn the lesson in the hard way. This time nothing broke down. I got new OS 3 function to the iPhone. All that left for me to do is to explain to my wife how I lost all her info in her iPhone.
ps: You really have to upgrade "OFFICIAL" OS 3 through iTune before jailbreak program can work the way it supposes to.
